Nature Network Boston goes live
Via The Sceptical Chymis:
Nature Network Boston is a new social network created by Nature. It is based on Ruby On Rails. It includes the possibility to build your network, to create groups, events and blogs.
I registered today and there were a few bugs during the registration process but the interface is still a beta version . Why is it only dedicated to Boston ? What about the scientific community of Brie Comte Robert ? It is said that Yes, science is an international endeavor, so you may be asking: why focus on just one city? We believe that science benefits from local interactions and collaborations, especially in Boston where so much good research goes on just down the street or across the river.. Hum... in my own opinion science is an international endeavor and it should not be restricted to one town...
Will this site be as similar and powerfull as LinkedIn ? Will they link it to connotea ? Will it be open source ? wait and see...

It is all template based so they can just keep expanding to other cities. I like the idea of physical proximity but they could make this with some filtering instead of focusing on a city. It is anyway very nice. Networking is very important for science and again Nature brand will probably give this the extra push to get some people interested in it. Now if they would get Heidelberg in there soon :)...
I believe this an excellent start for the scientist and researchers for networking and collaboration, i would think that they would expand this globally and let user localized their interaction. Good job on Nature once again.
